Strange things on tv...

I've been working on my technicals all night, and in the background the TV is on. Two things to note,
1) Kanye West changed his name to Martin Louis King Jr?! wtf? Why does every star feel that at a point they become so famous that they must change their names? In the video where he announces the change, he looks and sounds so high on drugs - but I guess that explains the decision.
2) I was watching Much Music and theres a spotlight on Classified, some singer/rapper from Toronto and theres a video where random people from Toronto are mouthing the lyrics.. and one of the people is Jeanne Beker.. how random.. and I bet most people that watch the video have no idea.

And now I should get to sleep.

Wear White 4 Windfall

This past month, I decided to take part in a competition for the Windfall charity which involved taking apart two old, outdated wedding dresses and recreating them into one creative new dress. Along with 12 other students from Toronto fashion schools, I finished the dress this past weekend and its now on display at Bayview Village (in front of the GAP) for a week. After that, its going up for auction to support Windfall.

The Windfall campaign aims to raise awareness about poverty in Toronto and their goal is to provide new clothing and basic need items to Toronto citizens in need. This Thursday (Jan 29) is the day to wear white and donate $4 to the campaign. There are going to be parties around the city to support the foundation as well. Anyway, hope to see you wearing white this Thursday! (even though its after labour day.. )

i love this commercial so much.. it makes me want to buy the perfume.. and i have no idea what it smells like. And i just read that it was directed by sofia coppola.

make-up not war

I'm really getting into the new wave of graphic tees.. i say new wave because i feel like theyre just way nicer now. I just got a few tees/tanks from Trash&Luxury, Torn (by Ronny Kobo) , and Urban Outfitters. Maybe its the thinner cotton that i like better... and the lack of the words American Eagle or Abercrombie anywhere on the t-shirt (which is usually what i think of when i hear the words Graphic Tee.. shudder)
Anyway, my fave one is from Trash & Luxury. Its Coco Chanel's silhouette smoking a ciggy and it says, 'Poverty Sucks'. Its just in time for a recession.
And then one from Torn reminds me of a Georgia O'Keefe painting (see the similarities?). You may remember the Torn line from a little while back when all those celebs were wearing those tshirts with tigers/giraffes on them drawn pretty realistically.

i love the whole world...

I know most people who have access to a television.. (or friends with one) have seen this video, but if not, watch it. it makes me feel happy about the world. and i love that its for the discovery channel. <3

christmas is coming..

So i love christmas. i'm just going to come out and say it. i do.
the music, the bright colours, the pushy salespeople, the rush, the snow, fireplaces, ugly sweaters. its all wonderful. (except for eggnog, that shit is gross)
And in my excitement and joy, I have begun the ritual of listening to Christmas music day and night until december 26 when you are so sick of it that your ears burn off. Oh Nat, Bing, and Judy, fill my ears with christmas cheer!

And yesterday, I bought an ornament for my tree from Urban Outfitters and its so cute!!

shopping is a game!

So another random but pretty cool site I found online is a shopping/rating/games website called Stylehop. It’s a site where members rate different clothes on whether they hate it, think its okay, think its cute, love it, etc. They pull clothes from shopping websites like shopbop and then depending on the ratings, I guess people can see what other fashionable people find nice or not. From a marketing perspective for the companies it’s a pretty neat idea because they can get feedback from the customer right away. My favourite part is that you can play a game to guess the price of certain items, kind of like the price is right and see how you score against other people. The only thing I realized is that they only have tops on the website right now, which was kind of weird, maybe they have yet to add the rest.. but if that's all i have to choose from.. i might get cold.
