I'm finally able to give a decent recap of the trip to NY.. This past week has been horrible with exams, projects and a bad cold (guess it was all those late nights in NY!)
I'm even more convinced that I'm going to LOVE living in New York this summer. (you better come visit me...)
While I was there, I wrote a little journal because our internet was really shotty.. it could have been because we were stealing it.
Day 1Leigh and I met at the airport early in the morning and embarked on our 1 hour flight to NY. (did we honestly have to be there 3 hours early???) After taking a cab to our hotel, we got our room which was so cute-- so much better than what I was expecting. The kitchen was the best part, it was exactly what we needed. We dropped our stuff and headed to Grand Central Station to take the subway to Soho to meet up with Addy. While we were waiting for Addy, we ran into some other fashion girls! Oh you know, just running into some friends on the streets on New York, no big deal. We split up and went shopping in the area and me and Leigh found some great deals at Michael Kors. We scheduled to meet back up with Addy and Kim in Greenwich village for some dinner but we were a little early so we decided to hea

d into a Starbucks because it was freezing cold outside. On the way back out, we met Matt who invited us to the Matthew Williamson after party at Cain, on our first day in NY! We then finally met up with Addy and Kim and walked around in search of a restaurant. I pulled out a map and seconds later we were approached by someone offering help and directions-- too bad we weren't that interested in going to a drag queen bar. The restaurant we ended up finding was exactly what we wanted: cute, small, and priced right. Later, we went to the Beatrice Inn, a dark hip bar with low ceilings. After sitting there for a while, we learned it was a model hangout (I guess they didn't really think out the tall model/low ceiling thing)
Day 2It was a late start to they day because we were exhausted from our early flight the day before. We headed to Saks for some shopping but quickly realized it wasn't really the place for us s

o we grabbed a sandwich, changed our shoes and took the subway to the Lower East Side which was way more our style. I finally got to go to Pixie Market! I wanted to buy everything there! But in the interest of my bank account, I decided to buy only one thing - a pair of white patent oxfords. I love the lower east side, there are a way better selection of boutiques and vintage (but the prices for vintage are pretty high compared to Toronto). After the stores closed and we were finally exhausted from shopping, we found a great restaurant called Pink Pony which we absolutely LOVED and vowed to return to later on in the week. That night we went to the Matthew Williamson after party at Cain and saw our new friend Matt who was wearing the same pants as I was! Some drinks and a champagne toast later, we were back at our hotel.
Day 3
We woke up early and got all dolled up for the Nanette Lepore show at the Bryant Park tents. After a little outfit photoshoot, we left and headed to the tents which looked a lot like the L'Oreal Fashion Week tents (I had heard that it was modeled after NYFW) but with a lot more free beverages. We managed to grab a seat for the show and we loved it. After the show, we made sure to spend as much time as possible in the tents talking to people, taking free bevvies, and absorbing as much fashion energy as possible. While we were there, we were photographed by Marie Claire Japan and a couple of local bloggers, and we made some friends with a fashion student and a photographer! After we couldn't stand the pain of our shoes anymore, we made our way back to our hotel to change shoes and spent the better part of the night watching MTV and making fake KD (how glamorous.) Then when it was time to go out, we went to Cain (again) for the Amanda Lepore/Richie Rich party with Leigh's friend Sam and it was pretty much the same scene as the night before.
Day 4
Thursday we decided that we needed to see something cultural, and we chose to see the MoMA. It was a toss up between the MoMA and the ICP for the photography exhibits but we finally chose the MoMA because it was just a must see. I couldn't believe how many incredible (and famous) works of art were in one place. With another fab dinner of imitation KD, we watched some more MTV and then headed to the Lower East Side. Catching a sighting of Tim Blanks coming out of the Bowery Hotel was pretty cool, but other than that it was a pretty relaxed night out.
Day 5 We met up with Gill and her friend Jordan in SoHo at possibly the worst little diner ever with a depressingly droopy blue awning. After breakfast, we headed to Williamsburg to see the cute shops and bars, but found it a little difficult to get to on our first try. We took the subway to the wrong part and found ourselves in a pretty sketchy looking area. After asking an old lady with a very thick brooklyn accent for directions (and being kept there listening as she talked f

or 10 minutes), we headed in the direction amidst the very cold weather. Along the way, we stopped in a few very cute vintage stores that had very inflated prices and we decided to keep going. I think I would have enjoyed Brooklyn a little more if it wasn't so cold. I did happen to find a cute and cheap pair of sunglasses on our journey, so I was happy. On the way back, we stopped at bar to get a drink and relax before we had to face the bitter cold on our journey back to Manhattan. Leigh and I decided that we had to return to our fave restaurant, Pink Pony for a "last night in new york" dinner and we had a sweet meal. When we were there, I'm pretty sure the brother/love interest in Bring it On was sitting a couple tables away.. that was my celeb siting for the night. That night, Gill had invited us to Southside and introduced us to some friends. It was a fun night of drinking and dancing and definitely a good way to end off our trip to NYC.
Day 6
That morning, Leigh was incomprehensibly hungover. I left her at the hotel and went to meet a family friend who moved to NY a few years ago and is now pretty successful as an fashion artists agent (stylists, makeup artists, etc) and had an amazing brunch at Five Points in Noho. After brunch, I met the now awake but still hungover, Leigh at Grand Central and she insisted that we do the tourist thing and go to Times Square. I know this is a really popular tourist spot, but I pretty much hate it. Its so flashy and well, touristy. I got a picture of her and drunk, homeless Elmo that cost $1 and we walked back to the hotel to get our bags and fly home.
So long Manhattan, see you soon! xx
